  • The Township of Severn is a new municipally, founded on January 1, 1994, through the restructuring of Simcoe County.
  • The Township of Severn is comprised of the former Village of Coldwater, Townships of Orillia and Matchedash as well as portions of the former Townships of Tay and Medonte
  • The Township's population was 11,250 in 2001
  • Growth projections indicate that the Township's population will increase by 5,200 with 2,210 households being added during the period 1996 - 2016
  • Growth will be directed to the communities of Coldwater, Washago, Westshore and Port Severn
  • Two-thirds of new housing has been constructed in locations outside of the settlement areas, in the rural portion of the Township
  • Many of the new permanent households in the Township were formerly seasonal homes. With folks now working from home these have been termed "Electronic Cottages"
  • Total residential construction value for 2004 was 24 million, with 111 new homes being built
  • Total commercial/industrial construction value for 2004 averaged $13.0 million
