Source Water Protection
Pursuant to the Clean Water Act, the South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection Plan was approved by the Ministry of the Environmental on January 26, 2015 and came into effect on July 1, 2015.
In accordance with Section 40 of the Clean Water Act, the Council of the Township of Severn is required to amend its Official Plan to conform with a source protection plan and specifically with the significant threat policies and designated Great Lakes polices set out in the source protection plan. The Township has retained MHBC Planning to update the Township's Official Plan and Zoning By-law to ensure conformity with the Source Water Protection Plan. These documents can be found here:

In addition to the above, pursuant to Section 39 of the Clean Water Act, all decisions under the Planning Act or the Condominium Act, 1998 made by Council shall conform with the significant threat policies and designated Great Lakes policies set out in a source protection pan and have regard to the other policies set out in the source protection plan.
The Township of Severn has been working with neighbouring municipalities and Severn Sound Environmental Association (SSEA) in developing resources and education materials for our residents. New road signs are starting to be installed in the municipality so people know where the Source Water Protection Zones are located.
